Most of the time, Sister Poets work together on a theme or idea, but the outcome is entirely different. Our interpretation of a feeling or colour in a poem brings our own voices to light. For this week and the next, we will share the poems of two or three poets on a specific topic. And you guessed it, the theme is Halloween/spooky.
Enjoy the two poems, both the audio and written versions. Let us know in the comments what you think.
Halloween by Regina
Whispers within darkened mist, a language unknown to any kin. Ghosts appear floating high, skeletons dragging limbs behind. Revenge is sweeter served at night! Three brother ghosts gather in threads, eye sockets empty, shattered skulls. They hunt they search, it's time to take. Revenge is sweeter served at night! The drumbeat of the underworld grew louder around Josh's world, who sat within his house with gin, whistling jigs and songs of old. He stroked the fire but flames blew out, the door swung open, brothers stood. A marking on their rags was clear, these men he killed and gave no grave. He stole their land, he took their house, he took their stock and well within. Skeletal hands reached out to Josh and dragged him to their stone-walled well. They dropped him down and beat their bones in rhythm to the underworld. Revenge is best served cold and night, within the mist a whistle sound!Â
Boo by Heera
Eery darkness all around Cobwebs and crisp Casper white hovering sheets Sweep the street Swirling and turning amidst midnight mist Carved cute candlelit pumpkins Sweet spooky suckers and sweets Packed in are spew and gummy bear treats All and sundry scarily decked and dressed up With everywhere and anywhere to go Down city streets and cemetery seats Sparkle and shine gloom all mine Blood drawn on dripping just fine Spiked teeth ready to sink Deep dark night face painted white Here I come, trick or treat Scared or beat? Boo!
Just listened to the audio... Added dimensions... Think all poetry benefits from being spoken especially by the author...
Captures the two sides of this season the creepily macabre and the lightness and innocence if the trick or treat. Great job sisters 🎃👻🪄
